We were privileged to attend the City of Swan Mayoral Breakfast last Saturday evening. The main special guest was the Governor-General of Australia, His Excellency David Hurley.
The other special guests were the hundreds of individuals serving our community through numerous roles, both remunerated and voluntary.
It was an inspiring evening, that reminded us how many continue to work tirelessly – and tired, but still pushing through – throughout the year, for the benefit of others. The Governor-General was gracious in his comments and spent several days touring weather and bushfire-damaged sites to support those attempting to rebuild.
Bushfires, COVID-19 lockdowns and other economic impact have all been hitting us hard. The future of the area requires more action as individuals and as a business community than ever.
Mayor Kevin Bailey will be joining us for a formal update, providing in-depth insight into the impact of the bushfires and bushfire recovery plans, economic development, discussion about our future and more.
We have been in touch with all members via registered mobile numbers and are pleased to report that so far the impact from the fires has been minimal to them. Again, so far.
There are still members and so many in our region whose homes and livelihoods stand in the potential paths of the fires. Not to mention that some of you will no doubt have friends or acquaintances connected to the sad loss of 59 homes and counting. And, of course, there are many fighting the fires on the front lines.
True! Nervous, dreadfully nervous you may have been and are; but will they say that you are mad?
It is impossible to say how the idea may first enter your brain, but once conceived, it will haunt you day and night. Your passionate ideal for your business, your venture, your enterprise may make you seem mad. It beats within you, no matter how much you tried to bury and cover it. Others may have even tried to, but this is the point:
Over time, over years, perhaps, the beating within grew louder, louder, louder until it could be contained no more.
