BREAKING NEWS: WA Premier’s COVID-19 Phase 3 Re-opening Announcement

Premier Mark McGowan is announcing right now that Phase 3 re-opening of the WA State and Economy will begin 11:59 pm Friday night, June 5 – to take effect Saturday June 6.

Examples of the lifting of restrictions include moving to a 2 sq metre per person rule – lifting indoor gatherings to 100 with appropriate measures, and lifting the ceiling to 300 at appropriately spaced venues.

Playgrounds reopen, Perth Zoo, beauty salons, outdoor sports and much more.

Jobkeeper Payments and the “Basic Test”

In the spirit of Monday’s Star Wars Day, “Well, hello there!”

I hope you are well and able to keep improving and thriving in the current climate.

After discussions with Chamber members, I raised the question through our virtual meeting of the City of Swan COVID taskforce, regarding businesses/business owners who do not meet the ATO’s set criteria or “basic test” for the Jobkeeper payment. The Small Business Development Corp informed us during the call that there is an ‘alternative test’ where the ATO can make special exemptions for certain situations.

Coronavirus Sit Rep March 2020
Back when we were not so socially distant.

Hello to all of our members and friends of the Chamber.

We all know how hard the Coronavirus is hitting – from our homes to the entire world around us. You don’t need me to tell you how bad it is nor how tough it is to operate in this environment.

What I would like to do, however, is first to congratulate the many of you who have swiftly adapted to the needs of the moment and second, to tell you how we are continuing to work to help you.

2019 – The Economic Year Ahead

On the overall economic front, it’s clear that W.A. is in a state of flux. While there is significant renewed investment in mining and talk about skills shortages, business growth is positive but on a slow growth curve. A recent CCIWA survey indicated mixed business confidence amongst CEOs and business owners around the state.

My own observations are that there is a renewed sense of vigour and positivity for the local economy. Many of the firms that simply rode the wave of the past boom while maintaining inferior strategy, business practices, services and product have simply vanished as they could not sustain themselves during the downturn. That has frequently left the stronger players in the market.
